Other internet options besides Time Warner Cable (Buffalo, NY) area

Are there any other decent options other than TWC for internet in Buffalo, NY. Fios is not available. Currently Im paying $65 for 20mbs. To go to 50mbs it would be an extra $40 plus $15 for the wifi/modem (which is a required cost) A simple modem will not due they say.

Verizon Fios- n/a
ATT Universe- n/a

This is what im getting now. Have it running wired through a old Buffalo Tech modem (air Station Turbo G ) http://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-Technology-Wireless-G-Antenna-WHR-HP-G54/dp/B000AOKTJ8

You have to rent the modem/router? I've never heard of that, as a DOCSIS 3.0 modem should work just fine. You're not using DSL, FIOS, or satellite, where a simple consumer product is readily available.

I rent the modem for my subscription, however, I was/am tight on cash and could not purchase my own.

Just saying.
