Good catch.

It wasn't obvious? It's similar to the 800/900 series phenoms. tongue.gif

But the problem is that it reminds people of Nvidia's GT200 generation from 2008/2009. There's also a good point about using the HD 9XXX monicker is that it reminds of the previous Phenom X4 quad cores from 2007/2008.

Change always scares people tongue.gif

You'll get used to it once it's released. Count on it.

Who cares what they name it, could be called "The Big Red Ogre" for all I care as long as it performs. Just tell people you have a bad axx card. It's not like people go around and say I own a Titan and the girls go "OMG"!.

Why does everyone keep ruling out 20nm based off of what TMSC is doing .. They have there own die-marker GF that has built gpu's in the past for them.

Glo-Fo seems to be perpetually behind both TSMC and their own roadmaps; they supposedly have 25nm, but whether or not they can provide the volumes or quality that AMD needs is another matter.

In other words, Glo-Fo may theoretically be able to make a <28nm Hawaii, but I somewhat doubt that AMD will trust them with it.

I don't think you guys get what AMD have done with the naming scheme.

The R9 competes directly with nVidia GTX,
the R7 competes directly with nVidia GT.

It makes perfect sense.

Also whoever is saying the names are too long.

"AMD Radeon R9 290x" is shorter than "nVidia GeForce GTX 660ti.

Kindof a mouthful but I guess I can understand why they didn't go with just 290x

Seeing as anyone asking you that should have at least an ounce of knowledge on the subject you could just say Radeon 290x, or 290x *twinfrozr 5*

Just like now, most people wouldn't call it a "AMD Radeon 7970" you'd just call it a 7970 or a reference 7970 or 7970 lightning.
