GTX 460 jump in temps after replacing TIM

Thread Starter
I have a question OCN fellows,
This week I removed the old TIM on my EVGA GTX 460 1GB and replaced it with a generic TIM I got from the local computer store. after the long process of cleaning the chip, the heatsink and applying the new TIM I was rewarded with a 4C jump in idle temps according to precisionX and AfterBurner. I have no idea why this happened but I think that the new TIM has something to do with it. there was a very thick layer of old TIM on the heatsink and chip when I pulled them apart, and I supplied a thin, evenly coated layer of new TIM. Is it possible that I used too little TIM? I was under the impression that I would not need very much at all. Thanks in advance for your responses

Well it could be the generic TIM is actually worse than the stock TIM, you didnt applied the TIM correctly, or you didnt mount the heatsink back on correctly. I would take the heatsink off and take a picture of the TIM to put on so we could see if you applied enough.
