Comcast Modem/Phone line HELP!! - Page 2

I have that arris modem you listed above, and I bought it at a best buy. Normally, its a comcast branded box if you buy it in a store, but online it might not be that way. It works well. As for your stated goal for speed, no matter what modem you have, comcast will not let you just have the fastest speed possible on the hardware. It depends on what service you are subscribed too, and there are tiers of speeds you can expect. I do know whats offered in all areas, and my area is slow (highest tier is 30 Mbps) compared to most.

I installed my own modem, it was a pain in the butt, they wanted to send out the guy 2 weeks after I had moved into my house, I said heck no, no way am I waiting that long. As I was moving I found a modem, all modems will work, they just take the MAC address printed on the back of the modem and sync it to the system and open the port up so that you can use it. It doesn't exactly happen like that, but I figured I would barney style it. I don't pay for the rental of the modem and I didn't make the mistake of using the provided Modem\Router combo they try to sell you. It's old technology and it is slow as crap. Anyway, you need to tell Comcast what you want, don't let them tell you what you need it will always be more.

That's a list of approved modems. If you want phone from them, you'll probably need to stick with a telephony modem. Also, if you find anything besides the 722g available for sail, you did better than I did.
