In the end, if games were optimized for Pc from the get go, then toned down for consoles, we would get much better games.

Well the nice part this gen is, the consoles are running PC hardware instead of a hodgepodge of custom chips. Sooooo if we're lucky they'll just make scalable engines instead of optimizing to any one platform.

Eh, lets see what they can do with what they're both given. I have an original 60GB PS3 which I love but I use my older Xbox 360 more now because their dashboard got a massive update which speeds everything up compared to the PS3's UI - although isn't the PS3 technically superior? Anyway, my point is we have to see what developers will achieve with both systems.

Game devs should say sorry microsoft your platform does not meet modern game requirements. we understand we will lose revenue. we want to make games for today not yesterday. had to add this.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHDdqubE7zQ

It's understandable that multiplayer servers, MMOs, etc. go offline over time, but I'm not convinced that cloud services being tossed into just any game only to be disabled years down the road is going to be a benefit. There's plenty of gems on various gaming platforms over the past few decades that we can either replay or play for the first time. Games that are worth playing and to me some of them feel as good now as they did back then. Just as one example, I never played Deus Ex before, and when I tried it just recently I was blown away that this game was made over ten years ago. And even that is a relatively recent game compared to gems from the 80s and 90s. I'm a little weary that we're going to start seeing an influx of games that use and tout the amazing features of the cloud but won't honestly offer a better experience, only to later be disabled due to this "feature," further enforcing the thought that the products we buy are rentals that get tossed out as soon as something new comes out.

I might be completely wrong about that. Only time will tell. But if it does happen, I'm sure in the coming decades people will look back on a giant collection of games that can only be talked about but never played from around this time period and wonder how it came to this.

Another great way of summing my thoughts and feelings up. thumb.gif

A few weeks ago my brother found at a garage sale a NES with Final Fantasy in the original box with all manuals, Dragon Warrior in box with all manuals, light gun, and Mario/Duck Hunt in box with all manuals for $5.

We went and found an old 19" CRT and set it up in the office, it works amazing and we can play like we were kids again. We also still have our original NES and those games plus a bunch more at our parents home, still works.

I don't see people sitting down 20+ years from now and enjoying "classics" of the XB1 if a core requirement is going to be their Cloud service. Only time will tell though.

Where is he is coming from is the fact that we didn't have visuals of much quality at the dawn of the console gaming golden years. It was literally about gameplay, story, and a bit of imagination to fill in the blanks on the visual side. In other words, he has the same feelings that many of us older gamers, and maybe younger ones, have; We want story and quality over visuals!

If the PS4 can't execute un-optimized software better, then Sony's engineers should be fired. It has faster hardware in it. It should be faster in executing any code that isn't optimized for a particular hardware architecture.
