GPU knowledge wanted: How is the PS4 NOT 30-50% faster than Xbox One?

The power difference between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One "is not as great as the raw numbers lead the average consumer to believe," Xbox's senior director of marketing and planning Albert Penello has stated, leading colleague Larry Hyrb to say that he is "very much looking forward to the next few months (and beyond) as the truth comes out" about the power of Xbox One.

So with all this talk going on recently about the Xbox One not being that much slower than the PS4 and that the 30-50% figures being thrown around are "exaggerated" it got me thinking...How is this NOT a lie?

I mean, the PS4 has 384 more GPU cores (which is HALF the total number in the Xbox One - so you're looking at 150% for the PS4 vs. 100% for the Xbox One), it has GDDR5 RAM for CPU and GPU, double the ROP's, hUMA (which still hasn't been confirmed to be in the Xbox One, right?) bare metal access, etc...so how, purely based on hardware specs, could the PS4 not be 30-50% faster? I would think the extra 384 cores ALONE would automatically equal at least 30% faster. How could it not?

Is MS just talking out of their butts or does the Xbox One contain some magical powers that we aren't aware of? Because from what I can see on the technology side of things the PS4 just isn't faster, but it's clearly 30-50% faster EASILY.

Thoughts?

Well there is a lot of things that effect performance and more importantly the speed of certain operations. So the question is: the PS4 is 50% faster then the XBO doing what.

If we are talking about the average performance differences between platform agnostic games then 50% is probably an exaggeration. 30% maybe. How the platforms match up with platform tailored games is harder to predict though no doubt the PS4 will be noticeably faster overall and some devs have said that getting good use out of the eSRAM is problematic.

I have heard that in things like procedural textures and ray tracing the XBO is faster then the PS4. The question then being if that is really going to be much of an benefit for developers.

How? Seriously interested to know this. The Xbox One has a slower GPU, slower RAM architecture (ESRAM...ehhh...), and the same CPU...so how exactly COULD the be Xbox One be faster with procedural textures and ray tracing? I mean, really?

I don't know much about the technical details but form what I gather it relates to how you need to do a lot small sized (as in KB's not MB) read/writes and for that the ESRAM is superior when compared to the PS4's GDDR5.
