I have a mini LAN party every weekend, and we almost never play over the LAN, even in games that support it. It's just a lot more fun to join a 30+ player server and work together with the other people in the room. I have absolutely no problem with the lack of LAN play in modern games.

there is a difference between 30ms ping with 1% packet loss vs 0ms ping with 0% packet loss biggrin.gif besides if you go over the internet, you'll always end up with someone that has a 300ms ping with like 2% packet loss that ruins it for everyone.
