Temperature Testing - effects of ambient temp

I'm doing some real careful testing to figure out an ideal cooling setup, and I'm wondering if the effect ambient temps have on cpu full load testing is linear. What I mean is that if the ambient temp is say 22°C and my full load test gives me a temp of 70°, if the ambient temp the next day is 24° and all else is equal, should my full load temp be 72°?

Common sense tells me yes, but there is just a nagging doubt. Like I said I'm trying to be very rigorous and eliminate as many variables as I can.

Rigorous:
adjective
1. characterized by rigor; rigidly severe or harsh, as people, rules, or discipline: rigorous laws.
2. severely exact or accurate; precise: rigorous research.
3. (of weather or climate) uncomfortably severe or harsh; extremely inclement.
4. Logic, Mathematics . logically valid.

You're certainly not being rigorous when you're going to base your conclusions on other people's opinions.

Control the variables and answer the question yourself. That's being rigorous!

And, anyway, I doubt there is a 1:1 correlation between those temps.

Of course that's a good point, but every good scientist reviews the existing literature before embarking on any experiment...that's due diligence.

Just wondering if anyone else has asked the question or had any insight. Where I live, it is going to be cooler than room temp for a few days (17-19°C), and just due to the nature of my climate control situation it's easier to control for temperatures when it is higher than that because my apartment is relatively small and I have a good AC unit that keeps ambient at 23° pretty consistently, and I frankly don't want to turn on the heat just yet rolleyes.gif

And yes probably within those limited ranges it won't make a huge difference, just wanted to see if anyone else had good info relating to temp dynamics.

well my computer is away from any heating vents,,and any AC,,its kinda in the middle of the room,,,so I noticed by chance that when my furnace kicks in,, in the winter my cpu temp would rise about 2-3 .c,,only when the furnace was blowing as soon as it quit blowing,,within a min or so my cpu temp would drop down 2-3 degrees,,but the ambient temp was the same ,,and I say again there is no warm air blowing around my computer,,,well 12 feet away anyways,,,and that's the same for the AC in summer,,when it kicks in the cpu temp drop will 1-2 degrees,,no lower though,,,why I,m say all this is I was amazed at the temp difference,,,just because there was hot or cooler air moving around the room,,,for example its 38.c outside right,,,the AC is on,,,,its 25.1 ,c inside,,,,,ya its hot today,,,,so if turn the AC off within a min my cpu will temp will rise 1-2 degrees,,,but its still 25.1 inside,,,as soon as I turn AC back on it will drop back down,,,,,

so don't fart around your PC it might overheat
