Which 7950 brand is best - Page 2

sapphire dual x , msi twin frozr and his iceq x2 are good options. the his iceq x2 is my pick. ref HD 7970 PCB with more power phases than ref HD 7950. 8 + 6 pin power. unlocked voltage. but card is 311 mm long. so make sure it fits your case.

I love the new XFX double D's. just bought a second one to replace my core edition (cant fit trifire). It's voltage locked but stable at 1150/1575 and quiet

I'm all about Sapphire these days! Not only have they never let me down, they've always impressed with their cards!

Really though Sapphire, MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, or HIS are all pretty safe bets

^winning!

I will say this about XFX ... When this Gen of Radeons came out I sold my XFX 6990 (that I loved) for a XFX 7970 DD Black Edition. It ran hot and it was loud. Now many cards can benefit from you taking apart and replying thermal paste, I did not do this. I sent it back to Newegg and bought 2 XFX 7870 DD Black Editions.

I have used XFX for 10 years and was happy with them so I stuck with them. The last card I had that wasn't XFX was a Voodoo 5 64 bit if that tells a little bit of my history. ive never owned an Nvidia card.

After my experience with the 7970 and reading so many other poor experiences it left a bad taste in my mouth.

That being said. I am VERY please with my 7870s. They are VERY quiet and cool. I have tried Gigabyte and Sapphire 7870s and the XFX runs cooler and quiter and feels and looks bette quality. But because of my experience and others peoples, i cannot recommend a 79xx series from XFX.

I will still probably buy whatever XFX top of the line card comes out next to test it but i will also probably buy MSIs Lightning version of that card too.

Being that XFX only makes AMD cards now, I feel that they should be exceptional in everyway. They have no excuse to not put out a quality card that no one would argue recommending.
