Encoding video on multiple windows based PCs.

Thread Starter
I had a search around and there was a thread where someone was asking how to do this but at the time it was pretty complicated. Please move this if I have missed the correct category.

Anyway - Ripbot implemented it quite a while ago now and even I was able to get it up and running on all the machines in my immediate vicinity.

http://www.thehtpc.net/htpc-tips-and-tweaks/ripbot264-distributed-encoding/ is a good tutorial.

I had been using handbrake but they still haven't jumped to 10bit, Ripbot is just a GUI for x264 so it is able to encode in 10bit.

Something to muck around with anyway.

The only problem I had was moving the temp file to a larger drive (50gb Blu-rays don't quite fit on my SSD >.>) Anyway, the issue was that once I had changed it I had to share the new directory manually (the default directory doesn't have these problems). Apparently this issue is specific to Win8.

I am not sure this is the right section for this to be in as Video Editing/Encoding is neither Networking nor Security.

This is network based encoding.

I posted here as the previous thread was in this sub-forum.

I guess it could go in software.
