Laptop Cooler for Alienware 18?

Hi Forum !

I just bought the new Alienware 18 and am having trouble deciding on a laptop cooler. Before this laptop, I had a Asus 17 inch laptop which I used the Enermax Aeolus Premium to cool it. It did wonders to cool my Asus. Now, I can't use the Enermax to cool this monstrous Alienware 18 because it's too small. I did research and found 4 laptop coolers that would support up to 19 inch laptops.

The first one is CoolerMaster Notepal U3:

http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-NotePal-Configurable-R9-NBC-8PCK-GP/dp/B003ZMF27G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379158742&sr=8-1&keywords=coolermaster+notepal+u3

I personally think it would be really good except have doubts and read reviews on it. Some people claim that after 2 - 4 weeks, the fan(s) stop working or give off a loud racket noise. So don't want any cooler that would stop working after a short time. I love how the fans can be adjusted because I can place them where my Alienware 18 has air vents.

The second one is CoolerMaster Notepal X3:

http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-NotePal-Cooling-R9-NBC-NPX3-GP/dp/B0079T2KHG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379158878&sr=8-1&keywords=coolermaster+notepal+x3

Another one for 19 inch laptops. I heard that the fan vibrates and it's made really cheap.. so it breaks also after a while. Also, I am thinking if it would really cool my Alienware 18 because it has a one fan and thinking about if the fan will reach the air vents, I have doubts.. as I know that the fan will dissipate heat but will it actually go into the air vents?

The third one is Xigmatek Shield NPC-D211

http://www.xigmatek.com/product.php?productid=21&type=photo

Didn't see any reviews for it. So I don't know from user experience if it has any flaws. Thinking that maybe this one can be really good but didn't hear a lot about the firm Xigmatek. Anybody heard of this firm?

The fourth one is CM Storm SF-19

http://www.amazon.com/Gaming-Laptop-Cooling-Turbine-SGA-4000-KKNF1/dp/B004G603E2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1379159261&sr=1-1&keywords=CM+Storm+SF-19

Again Coolermaster, but it's for a 19 inch made... again the same reviews as for the Notepal U3 and X3.

I really need help.. please feel free to share your opinions and suggestions. I appreciate it very much.

You should not need a cooler unless you overclock the CPU to 4.8Ghz or the GPU, which I assume is a 780m, to 1.2Ghz core.

If you insist on one, I can suggest a few.

Please do. What do you think about the laptop coolers that I named above ?

The Notepal X3 and Shield NPC-D211 look fine. The Shield might be a better fit.

+1 for the coolermaster u3 with 3 fans. Its a favorite over at NBR and works great for any number of different machines due to the 3 movable fans. smile.gif

+1 to Coolermaster U3. They have movable fans that you can point it out to areas that need some additional airflow and it has pretty good built smile.gif

+1 CM Storm SF-19. To double the air flow remove top grid or cut holes the size of fan blade; you effectively double the efficiency, don't stick your fingers in the blades. My 2 year old 140mm fans were always noisy, so I replaced them with AeroCool Dead Silent 140mm units Red LED and it had the same air flow with half the sound, Quietness cost money, how quiet do you want your rig to get wo overheating. Most fans are too small and noisy or really big like over 200mm and spin so slow to retain their quietness that they are ineffective. Never tried the U3 but I can put my had on the side of my laptop and feel the air blasting out with pressure, unlike a Zalman NC-2000.

I've been trying to find a stand for my 18 and I'm having a hard time. Are any of the ones here actually meant to go on your lap or are all these just for cooling purposes only? Thanks.

I recommend the u3. I had the u2 for my xps laptop till recently. Worked great and lasted years!

For an oversized behemoth like the AW18, there really is no better cooler than the NotePal U3 Plus. I have a 17.3" Clevo P370SM, and the U3 (non-plus version) is a perfect fit. If you want to take it to the next level, be sure to check out Gerik's U3 120mm fan mod.
