Unfortunately, I have not received any notifications about updates to this thread, so I am a bit bummed I am so late to the party, and since I have not yet caught up (Still on page 28...), this might look a bit goofy, but I felt the need to add this...

^You are right about the RGB LED strips, they are GREAT!!! However, I always get mine from eBay, plus I always get the black PCB versions, as well as getting an RF controller, instead of the IR ones that require line-of-sight, this way I am able to hide the controller (the RF ones are usually a little bit bigger, and they have limited options for remotes, but I did find a small 20-key RF kit {http://goo.gl/2aqQoe) in my case. It might be a challenge though, since your case is chock full of goodness! The RF controller I found is a large aluminum box, however, if you were to obtain some InstaMorph (http://goo.gl/ccw7mH), you could easily make a small enclosure for it... You can also find smaller RF controllers/remotes, but the remotes are very basic, and offer only up/down style controls, none of the preset options that the 20/24/44-key remotes provide...

With regards to the previous tape issue, why not use adhesive hook&loop? (Velcro) I have found that to work quite well if you obtain the not generic crap...

Just wanted to offer some ideas...

Looks absolutely fantastic by the way!!! thumb.gif

Unfortunately, I have decided against a full custom loop, as I quickly raked in $1,000 worth of gear, and I purchased a lowly H100 in the interim (for only $60), and with my temps this low (I already have 2xArctic cooling accelero hybrid units on my 670 FTW's), even overclocked to 4.6GHz, my 4820K is not getting above 60C, and the cards sit at about the same under full load... So it did not seem reasonable to get $1,000 of additional cooling, when what I have is perfectly adequate, PLUS I am able to remove everything easily, and without issue, so I think this is going to be the most compelling route for my needs...

Although, there is a part of me that is trying VERY hard to justify the $1,000 price tag, because you can't put a price on AWESOME!!! redface.gif

Anyway, again, hope this proves useful!

Quick question, since there are at least a few people here with an R4BE... I can not get my damn fans under control!!! They are running at full speed, and no matter if I make adjustments in the UEFI, or in Fan Xpert 2, same result, from POST, through Windows, they are cranked up! Auto tuning does not even show any of my fans at all... And all but one are PWM fans... I just do not understand what the crap is going on...

Any help would be supremely appreciated!!!

Thanks!

I haven't messed with the motherboard fan headers, but you should be able to control them via the software in the bios under monitoring. I only have one fan hooked up, & it's through the CPU_HEADER, & the fan monitor in the bios works fine. You may need to tweak the upper/lower temps a bit. I ended up getting the Aquaero 6XT, glorious piece of hardware.

I'll finally be updating the finished result tomorrow I believe. Been a busy few weeks here in Florida. The #1 problem with living in Florida is that all the northern dwelling family members start to invade after the new year. It never fails.

Are you plugged into the CPU_FAN header? Only the CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT headers actually allow PWM control & the CPU_OPT is just a mirror of CPU_FAN.

LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01

AFAIK it's the same as with every motherboard that has 4 pin connectors. all the other fan headers can be voltage controlled if enabled in the BIOS.

Might want to have a look at sections 3.7, to enable other fan headers in the BIOS - if I'm reading it right everything but CPU_FAN look to be disabled by default - and then chapter 4 for setting them up using fan expert, etc.

I ended up digging in a bit further, one of the fans was plugged into CPU_OPT, and the other was plugged into OPT_FAN3, oddly, ONLY the OP_FAN3 fan is at full speed, I thought that both of the fans on my rad were maxed, but it turns out it was just the one... For the time being, I just plugged them both into my onboard fan controller on my Fulmo GT. I have changed every setting I could find related to the fans, including adjustments in the UEFI/BIOS, as well as spending over an hour trying to get Fan Xpert to work correctly.

So, for now, I am simply going to just use one of my slow fans on the OPT_FAN3 header. It was working fine on my previous Windows installation (From my previous motherboard, I just swapped out the board, and booted up Windows with the R4BE, but once I did a fresh install, that is when it went haywire... The odd thing, is that it is at full speed from the BIOS as well...

Anyhow, thank you for the efforts. I am sure in time I will have it sorted, in the mean time, I am just using a splitter for the rad fans...

I did mean to ask, you stated that only two of the headers (CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT) are PWM controllable, and that CPU_OPT is just mirroring the CPU_FAN header... What in the world is the point of Asus going through the extra effort, spending extra money, and costing me more money, if I can not even use the PWM fans, I mean, really, why do they even manufacture case fans if there are only two headers that use them? This is an absolutely ridiculous methodology, that is, if I am understanding you correctly...

Should there not be some kind of a disclaimer? As I have been slowly upgrading my fans with PWM Noctuas and PWM Cougars, and it has me miffed that I have potentially wasted my money... Guess I will just add the two 180mm Side panel fans my case supports in 3-pin instead of PWM...

I believe all motherboards with 4 pin fan headers are like that.

Besides ASUS, I also have MSI, Asrock, and Gigabyte mobos that are exactly the same way. I've yet to hear of any motherboard that anything but the CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT headers that are PWM-capable.

The rest can be voltage-controlled via the BIOS/mobo software. A lot of the time they can be controlled via temp sensors, but via voltage, not PWM.

Edit: You can always get a PWM splitter cable or PWM splitter PCB to run more PWM fans off of the CPU_FAN & CPU_OPT headers.

So why are all of the fan headers 4-Pin PWM headers? Also, I could have swore that the PWM headers on my Z77 worked properly... I never had a problem with that board, neither with the headers on my ASRock Z77 Professional-M board (That is, the headers not marked as CPU_FAN/CPU_OPT)

Please bear with me, as I am a bit confused, and kind of irritated by such information, I have never heard this before, and it blows my mind that there is no disclaimer. Not to mention, the setting in the BIOS that says (for all fans), "Use 'Advanced' mode if you are using 3-Pin fans instead of PWM supported fans" - Why is that there? I guess my knowledge on this topic is a bit less than I thought... lol redface.gif

Thread Starter
the PWM is a lie, only the cpu_header is pwm, the rest are voltage regulated. similar, but not the same.

Iv'e ran PWM pumps off of multiple motherboards, could only ever get functionality out of the cpu_header, even when the manual says they are all pwm, if you look closer @ the diagrams they are NOT pwm.

"4-pin PWM fans on CHA_FAN 1-2-3 get a constant +5V thru PWM wire, and are undervolted thru +12V wire for speed (this is an ASUS trick to regulate PWM fans by voltage and not by true PWM on CHA_FAN headers)."

After some googling, just found this bit of happiness... Can not express my level of pissed-ffedness!!! After all of the bragging I have seen from Asus regarding "ALL PWM FAN HEADERS!!"

SHOVE IT ASUS!!!

That being said, I still love Asus, and sadly, this is the state of affairs regarding just about anything that is marketed, make it sound as good as possible, (mostly) without lying!!!

Thank you all for helping to clear this up for me. I really do appreciate your time and effort!!!
