Appraisal: HP Ultrium 4 1760 SAS drive...... Completed

Hey Guys, I came into possession of the above tape drive. It was in a standalone case but the cooling fan failed and the power supply got cooked. The drive powers up and seems to be in working condition. Does anyone know what something like this is worth? It's capable of 800GB native and 1.6TB of compressed storage on the LTO tapes, has a SAS connector in addition to a 4-pin molex for power. Thanks!

SAS stuff alone is a tough sell, especially on forums. A tape drive of 800GB may be tempting to some, but with most users lacking an SAS port it'll be tough to sell. Your best bet may be ebay and the 800/1.6 seems to run around $100-250. On the forums, I'd say you'd be lucky to get $50 on the forums IF that maybe.

Yeah, I would tend to agree, ebay might be the better bet. I happen to have a SAS port on my P6T Deluxe but I thought it might be worth more to sell and get something a lot more fun biggrin.gif I wanted to check with you guys on OCN to verify. Thanks for the appraisal! +rep

I regret letting go of my P6T/980x only for that reason. There was nothing like raid0 with a pair of 15k SAS drives to tickle your ears. biggrin.gif
