Crossfire or New/Old GPU? (currently own single 7850)

Thread Starter
I currently have an Eyefinity setup, and at some point in the future, I plan on upgrading my graphics processing power. I hear in most cases, a high-end single GPU would be better to upgrade to, but why? And what situations would Crossfire be better in?

I've thought about trying to sell my current GPU as of lately, but I've also considered just buying another one to Crossfire. Part of me likes the idea of Crossfire tongue.gif But I do like overall performance better.

Another thing for me to consider is how well either situation would work on OSes outside of Windows. Although in this regard, I'm pretty sure a single GPU would be best. One thing that slightly concerns me currently is Southern Island+ support on Linux. I have considered just selling my 7850 and getting a higher-end 6xxx series card.

sell your HD 7850 and get a HD 7950. its a significant improvement in perf of around 50%. much better than CF. at current prices HD 7950 is a steal.
