GTA IV - Xbox 360 quality settings on high end gaming rig

I thought it would be fun to do a little comparison between the settings used for the Xbox 360 on a PC. I will show the average, minimum and maximum framerate as well as the video memory usage and ram usage in the task manager.

My PC specs:
Intel Core i7 3770k @ stock
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti 3GB (EVGA superclocked+)
16GB DDR3 (2x8GB 1600MHz)
1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue 64MB cache

I looked online and most people would agree that the settings for the Xbox 360 are similar/same as these:

Resolution 1280 x 720 @ 20 -30 fps
Texture Quality Medium
Reflection Resolution Medium
Water Quality Medium
Shadow Quality High
Render Quality Low
View Distance 21/100
Detail Distance 10/100
Vehicle Density 33/100
Shadow Density does not exist on the Xbox 360
Definition off
Vsync off

The settings were so low that GTA thought my graphics settings were too high.

My resource usage was only 343MB. I am guessing that is about the same as the Xbox 360 because of it having 512MB of GDDR3. Although I am not sure how that compares to the PS3 only having 256MB of dedicated VRAM.

As you can see, inside I was getting around 220-240 FPS.

As we walk outside we get 90-100 FPS.

Blowing up stuff still didn't bring us down much.

720p - console quality results:
I recorded a benchmark for a couple minutes with the Minimum: 51 Maximum: 224 Average: 83.93
I am guessing the minimum being so low because I died and showed the gray screen. Every time I die I see the FPS go back to a near constant 60.

1080p - console quality results:
I also did the same settings at 1080p and here were my results:
Minimum: 59 Maximum: 113 Average: 82.35

I thought it was interesting how the average and minimum didn't change much. The maximum FPS definitely went down but still at almost double that of my refresh rate.

I am curious to see what a video card like a GT 630 with some other cheap hardware would compare and if it would run the same as the console for the same price.

Oh and GTA IV only used a little over 750MB in the task manager.

It's a poorly optimized console port that doesn't take advantage of high end components that's why there isn't much difference. Let's hope they don't do the same for GTA V.

I bet Rockstar is going to use the same engine they used for Max Payne 3, and that game was awesome on PC. Let's hope it will end up like that with all the DX11 goodies and anti aliasing.
