Help needed - can't play video on TV from flash drive

Thread Starter
I've just moved in to a new house and the land lord's suppled a TV.

Its a Panasonic th-l32xm6t.

The files appear but say "video codec un-suported". I've tried mkv, avi and mp4s and a couple of different drives (a 2Gb and a 4Gb formatted to NTFS and FAT32).

Here's a link to the manual. http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/TCL32XM6.PDF

The manual (p12) doesn't mention which formats of video the TV can play. There's a picture (bottom left, page 11) which shows "photo" and "music". My TV has an almost identical image shown on the screen but it has, in addition, "video".

Any suggestions? I should say this is the first TV I've ever owned / used properly that is a) flat screen b) cost more than $100 thumb.gif

Thanks in advance.

Not every TV out there can support mkv files or etc. It can support older popular brands like divx.

I am guessing it is a normal compatibility issue.

I have Samsung 8 series TV and can easily play any file out there but my friend with his Samsung 5 series can not.
