Strange problem when turning PC off and on

Thread Starter
Hey guys! So I've been lurking on here for quite a while but this is my first post! Any way I've started to have a strange issue with my computer. I recently moved up to college and obviously that meant my computer was coming with me. Everything worked fine at home but now if I shut my computer off when I turn it back on all the fans spin up but the computer doesn't start up or even post. To get around this I have to unplug my power supply form the wall for about 10 seconds before I plug it back in. After that I can turn it on and everything boots up fine. I've got an Antec EA-750 Green which I've had for about 2 years now. All my other components are in my sig rig. Hoping you guys can help me figure this out!

Welcome to OCN

I could be the PSU but then again it could be something else

Fastest way to rule it out is to try another PSU

Would there be anything else I could do? I don't have anybody who I could borrow a PSU from up here. I'd really rather not have to buy a new one before I absolutely have to.

Take it apart and rebuild it

Or just rule out one part at a time

Not really much you can do find the problem

Thanks for the advice. Any ideas what the most suspect parts might be then?

This happened to me, it was the motherboard.

Lets say, when it first started it would take 1 or 2 restarts before it would post, within an hour it was taking 50 or so tries before it would post, and finally it wouldn't post at all.

During/right before this whole fiasco the computer was starting to turn itself on randomly, the computer would crash/restart before it got to the desktop when it would start, and if by any luck I made it to the desktop it was incredibly laggy.

I was using an asrock motherboard when this happened, I RMA'd it and within a week it started doing that again, it ended up corrupting my OS from it crashing so much during the splash screen and I had to reinstall windows. I ended up switching away from asrock and got an MSI motherboard and I have had no problems with it for what is probably half a year by now.

So it might be your motherboard.

Hmmm I didn't think of that! Ill have to go check. Sounds like I should just start breadboard it... Also how would I go about figuring out if it is the motherboard?
