Monitor newbie here! Trying to get input to a monitor through different outputs? Should be very easy to help with!

Okay guys, I have a situation that I need help with.

My dad is moving out of his current house to a new house and is getting rid of an older tv:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I decided to take it to mount on the wall of my bedroom simply because I wanted a tv there, and was going to buy my own, until this situation popped up and I thought "Why buy a new tv when theres one laying right there for me?"

So I took it and am now here trying to figure out how to get my laptop to hook up to my tv. I have two laptops; one has the following connections: (3.5mm Audio Jack & HDMI) and the other one has: (3.5mm Audio Jack, HDMI & VGA), so the usual ones, nothing crazy or exotic.

However, the tv has these connections:

Preferably, I'd love to be able to get the HDMI+3.5mm laptop to hook up to the tv, but I wouldnt mind having the HDMI+VGA+3.5mm laptop doing the job as I think the tv only has analog signal inputs while HDMI is digital, so I would really really really like to avoid using a converter box as that axes all quality.

Now, getting a VGA cable to hook up to the VGA slot is simple enough; but what do I do for audio? Is there a 3.5mm to ??? (idk what the audio connections on the tv are...) cable adapter?

Can anyone help me find out what kind of cables I'd need to figure out the solution here?

Updated, found a much cheaper one at monoprice.

I'd like to buy it locally for a few reasons; I know you can save money if you buy online, but cables usually aren't too much many anyways.

Thanks a lot for your help! What exactly is the name of that audio cable however?

I understand wanting to support local businesses, cables are usually quite a bit more however. I just searched 3.5mm to rca cable. Both are analog audio so no converter needed or anything. I bet places like radio shack or walmart have them in stock.

I dont mind paying 5-10$ for the solution, even if I could get it for significantly less. The tv was free anyways, so I'm already quite far ahead smile.gif

So the cables I'll need are just VGA and 3.5mm>RCA? Okay, sounds good. Thank you very much! smile.gif
