XFX 6790 Overclock Thoughts

So, I have a XFX 6790 which I picked up around for about £45 in January for my budget rig. I thought it was a terrific price so had to get it. It's been a fine performer at 1280x720 (TV's natural res), but I wanted a bit more juice. So, went into the CCC, used Overdrive as my tool of choice. A matter of convenience really as it's already there (and arguably one of the best imo). So the default clock is 775/1050 and I got a bump to 850/1050. I don't usually like messing with the Mem clock as from previous GPU's it's negligible anyway. The clock bump is fine, the new Splinter Cell runs on DX11 1280x720 Ultra with FXAA and Medium Shadows pretty much perfectly, with the odd few dips. But a lot of you will be the experts here, so my question is this.

Is it a decent OC for the card? Bearing in mind it can do 950 but I hate going to far over. Mr safety if you will. I know I could probably push it that little further but surely the difference won't be noticeable from the clock now? I'm a beginner when it comes to the whole OC'ing business, only did it on the 8600m GS, which surprisingly at 580 core worked flawlessly.

Cheers for any help guys and thanks for taking time to read my post biggrin.gif

Try Radeon pro, It will work hand and hand with the amd control center, Not only that but ull get more fps in some games and also be able to inject AA methods of your choice-ie sweet fx and so forth.......... Its always best to combine Gpu core bump with a little voltage bump and memory as well, But if your satisfied with gpu core only oc then by all means stick to it. You can try Msi afterburner, Saphire Trixx, But I like Radeon pro really anyone with a radeon schould be using this program.thumb.gif

Hmm, I've just downloaded it. Going to give it a go. Seems more advanced than CCC. Should I do my tweaks based on Profile or Global? I assume Global for my games then. I'd love to make Chaos Theory a little bit prettier!. And other games OFC. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a play around. Cheers! smile.gif

EDIT - Chaos Theory crashes frown.gif. But SC1 is nice. Any ideas which SweetFX to use as the best ones?
