Motherboard/heatsink compatibility question

Hey all
I'm in the market for a new cooler and I'm trying to choose between the Noctua NH-U12S and the NH-U14S.
Now iv been told that the U14s version is a bit large and comes into contact with the gpu that is mounted in the first pci-e slot sometimes depending on which mobo you are using.

Has anybody had any trouble usin the U14s cooler in the Asus rampage formula x79 while running a card in the first pci-e slot?

I don't want to by the large cooler and have it mistakenly to big for my motherboard.

Cheers

Have you got the motherboard? If you do measure the distance between the cpu and the pcI-e slot and compare it to the width of the cooler

Iv tried that method. But I would just like to hear somebody else's experience with that particular cooler and mobo just to clarify if it fits properly.
