Ram Speed on X3 720 OC

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,
I have an inexplicable problem with my OC and i think its my RAM Speed, First of all i have an X3 720 BE OCed to 3.5 Stable (originally 2.8) and 4GB DDR3 1333MHz (2 sticks unganged).

So after reaching my stable OC the PC "Stutters" for like 500ms every now and then although the OC passed 7 hours+ with no errors; there was no point of continuing the stress test as i never game for more than 7 hours mostly

BUT my other unstable OC didn't stutter and windows start-up was smooth and fast but it gave a fatal error after 6 hours of prime every time (no matter how much i reduce the FSB it still gives that fatal error on 3rd core after 6 hours) i stopped testing after reducing it to 202 and tried auto instead (which is stable but stutters).

My Stuttering Stable OC:..........................................................My Smooth Unstable OC:
MULTI: x17.5...........................................................................MULTI: x17
NB Speed: x12 @ 2400MHz.........................................................NB Speed: x12 @ 2400MHz
FSB: Auto (200).......................................................................FSB: Manual (208)
RAM: 1333MHz.........................................................................RAM: 1386MHz
CPU-V: +0.100 @ 1.425v...........................................................CPU-V: +0.100 @ 1.425v
NB: +0.100.............................................................................NB: +0.100

Note that the cpu-v and nb-v are fixed at +0.100v as i don't want to raise them any higher.

However i noticed if you manually set the FSB to 200 by hand RAM Speed goes up to 1339Mhz instead of 1333Mhz is this still ok!
Would the "Auto" FSB settings cause the stuttering ? I now know my ram can't be OCed since the system is not stable with higher than the default FSB but would it operate normally under 1339MHz ?

Thanks.

First off I will say the 720's don't like a high multi used like you'd think, my 720 doesn't like running much over 17x used itself without acting up at times.
Also know the 720's being based on the older Heka core tend to fall short of 4.0 with stability, in fact many won't even reach 4.0 regadless of what you do with them.

Another thing is the 720's are picky with the type of RAM you use with them, they tend to "Like" older sets of DDR3 but seem to "Hate" the newer ones, probrably since these are C2 stepping chips.

Be sure load temps are within range too, excessive heat can contribute to instability and although that might not be a problem, stil check that to be sure.

You can read more about the 720's here: http://www.overclock.net/t/475649/amd-phenom-ii-x3-700-series-oc-club

Hope this helps in some way.
