My PSU has no 8-pin power...

Hi guys, i've just received my first gtx780 and it turns out that my damn ocz psu has 4 pci-e 6-pin connectors and no 8-pin.

I was wondering. Would this actualy work? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003TQFASO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Although there is an 8-pin connector on one end the other end would still be connected to 6-pin. So i'm a little confused as to whether the card would actually boot properly.

Plugging in the two 6-pin i have currently just gives me the dreaded 'please connect to psu' message on boot sadsmiley.gif

No there is a reason for an 8 pin because its gives more power then a 6 pin

So if you use that the video card will get too little power

Best thing you can do if you dont want to buy a new PSU is to find a 8 pin to 2x molex adaptor

I think you get one with your video card

Which OCZ PSU do you have now?

That particular adapter you linked has a 6 pin male and 8 pin female connector, it's for converting a 8 pin PSU output to a 6 pin plug on a GPU, not the other way around.

This is the one you need:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Startech-Express-Power-Adapter-Cable/dp/B001TK3TJY/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_1

That one has a 8 pin male and 6 pin female connector, and you can see the little loop on the 8 pin side that connects the extra two pins on the side of the connector to the ones next to it.

I wouldn't recommend a 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe adapter. There are a couple potential problems with that; a) the gage of the wire is often different between a native 6-pin PCIe and native 8-pin PCIe power plug and b) a 6-pin plug is rated for 75W total while an 8-pin is rated for 150W total. Accordingly there is a potential to draw more amperage through the native 6-pin wires than they were originally designed to handle, causing a potential overheating or power supply failure.

I agree with Shilka - if a new power supply is out of the question, use to x2 Molex to 8-pin PCIe adapter, or alternatively a x2 6-pin PCIe to x1 8-pin PCIe adapter.

Here are a couple examples;
