What to do about finding another 1156 mobo?

Current motherboard for a system with an i3-530 is giving out some grief. Random sound issues with headsets, after getting 4 replacements there's still no improvement. Looks like there's one on Newegg that's about twice as much as I'd like to spend (was looking at $80 or less) and a handful on Amazon that I know nothing about. Any other options you guys know of?

Analog headphones?

If that's the only issue, get a sound card.

Both analog and USB had issues. With analog, the mic would just cut out whenever it felt like and come back maybe 10-20 minutes later. USB would get random echoes on the mic.

If analog headphone issues can be due to a terrible onboard audio implementation, USB issues happen either because the mic is bad or you have some driver or USB controller issues. The latest is highly unlikely.

So does that USB mic work fine with your B75 board?

Oh, sorry. Should have given a little more detail. It's on a different machine. Motherboard is an Asus P7H55-M PRO. Not entirely sure what the cause of the USB mic issues were, it was a Siberia V2 and after replacing it twice with USB sets, they tried sending a couple of analog sets. With the analog there was the mic cutting out and static from the speakers, the static was resolved after fighting with the drivers for a bit. I think the issue there was the nvidia HD audio stuff.

I wouldn't even know where to begin looking for problems in the drivers/USB controller issues. Would a cheap sound card work, for the sake of figuring out what's going on? I planned on getting it to more current hardware in December, I just need something to hold it over until then.

Edit: Both mics, USB and analog, worked fine on my laptop. Didn't have anything else to test them on at the time. Granted, the analog one seemed to work fine on the desktop too until it randomly cut out after about 30 minutes.

Yea I figured that that's a different machine. I just wanted to know if the mic worked fine on your current machine with B75 board.

Cheap sound card should do fine, and would help to narrow down where the issue is. I would suggest Xonar DGX, but if you want to buy used there are probably cheaper options too like older Creative X-Fi cards.

Yeah, there's about 300 miles between this machine and that one. tongue.gif It all sounded fine on my laptop and I thought maybe my playing with the drivers had fixed it. I just picked up a $15 Rosewill card, if that turns out to be the fix then I'll likely go with the Xonar.

Thanks for the help so far, I really appreciate it.

Okay, so now with that sound card in it seems to get even weirder. The mic plays back any sound that the computer has. So if a video is running, the person on the other end can hear it as if they were playing it. I think that might be related to the sound setup though, not really sure what I'm doing here.

Edit: Alright, disabled "StereoMix" and everything seems to be set. Only issue now is the output from the mic is a tiny bit low. The mic boost option is just a checkbox and doesn't have a slider so it goes from being quit to loud and picking up background noises.
