Need help picking new motherboard

Thread Starter
I have been told by my local shop that my Intel D915PCYL has a dead short and needs to be replaced. While not the fastest machine around it meets my needs. In order to keep costs down I would like to replace the board and keep the same components that are on the current board. What is the best board I can get that will work with the following?

P5-550-3.4
2-512MB DDR2
ATI RADEON X600PRO PCE

My main use is building websites and rendering images using Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks and Pagemaker.

Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated?

Thanks,

Carl

Welcome. Please fill out your system specs under User CP. You will need to tell us the Socket you are using: It sounds like it could be either 478 or 775.

Here is what we are looking at so far. A Gigabyte GA 945p-S3 or a GA 965p-S3. They will work with the P-4, DDR2 and has a PCI-E slot. Best of all it can be upgraded to duel processors when finances allow and can be overclocked.

Are there any down sides to these boards that I have not seen?

Thanks,

Carl

The Gigabyte P965-DS3 is a great overclocker on a budget. No downsides really. Of course no SLI or CrossFire and not the worlds best overclocker. But it will do great with a Core 2 Duo under air cooling.
