Is my external hard drive going to die soon?

This has just started two days ago, I have a Western Digital My Book that was purchased probably over 5 years ago, and i think this has to do with age.....

But, basically it would sound like its beginning to spin as if its reading something or accessing something (this happens while im play a game or if i leave my computer on at night) and it would just have this clacking, buckling sound as if the read/write arm is like being buckled back

It would do this:
*begin to start spinning*
*clack*
*clack*
*clack*
*slow down spinning*

*begin to start spinning*
*clack*
*clack*
*slow down spinning*

*repeat process over and over

I cannot access the drive via My Computer unless i turn the power off the drive (since it is separate from the USB port), and plug it back in.

Sometimes i have to disconnect and plug it back in multiple times before the buckling stops and the computer can read the drive.

I am currently in the process of backing up everything on this drive. So far after 10 attempts of power ON and OFF, it works again.... so i am going to attempt backing up all these files in another hard drive.

Is my external hard drive nearing its end of life?
