The school should stay the hell out of anything not happening on school grounds or on school networks. It is none of their business. Social media should require age verification that the user is 18 or older. End of story.
Not like you are an actual citizen if you are under 18 anyway. Not to mention that you can't legally agree to the TOS contract on any website if you are under 18 either (in most states). A legally binding contract requires you to be 18 or older nearly everywhere. (which means you are in breach of contract for falsification of information anyway)
Yes yes, before 18 you are nothing more than a puppet, we get it.
My only issue with stuff like this, is simply context. No amount of high tech monitoring professionals in the world can know context. Me saying 'I'll kill you' could be anywhere from joking with a friend to seriously plotting to murder somebody. I also don't like this whole idea of 'if you ignore your child, they'll become hardened criminals or beat up by others'. The reality of that is pretty far from the truth. It's luck of the draw for how a kid acts, not parenting. Parenting works around to teenage years then it's up for grounds based on what group of kids they fall into. Thinking you can realistically parent every single thing a child does is humorous at best. Sure, you could literally censor the entire world from your kid and they'll be angels, but those typically are the kids that actually do get bullied since you remove their ability to have some sort of social presence. I personally know a girl who's parents allow her to see at best a select group of PG-13 movies and rated E video games, sometimes she gets to play rated T. She doesn't exactly get bullied in the traditional sense, but she is the butt of many jokes purely due to how awkward she is from her being censored by her parents. What her parents thought was producing an angel of a person, turned out to make her a social laughing stock that I'm sure has or will give her many mental issues from anxiety, depression, and etc. I agree with finding a way to stop bullying and the such, but maybe people need to look deeper into the cause of bullying. I've never seen a 'normal' person get bullied before, the only people I see get bullied are socially awkward people that from my experience always stems from them being censored or 'brainwashed' in a way such as extreme political, religious or social views. If parents let their kids live, good chance they'll actually make friends and when they have friends as kids, they won't have to settle for joining up with a bad crowd since it's their only possibility towards friendship, which is something else I've personally see. A lot of 'bad kids' are really just good kids that had the choice between sitting alone at lunch everyday or joining the kids that have open arms with promises of fun.
