I was asked about this so I figure I'll just throw it out there.

QUESTION: Should we construct and maintain a specific OCN BOINC TEAM system with the following general parameters in mind:

1) The OCN Machine would crunch ONLY POTM.

2) It would be built and maintained by one of the editors or a volunteer.

3) ONLY Donated parts used.

a) If a part is replaced, the old part is SOLD only at OCN marketplace OR given away as BGB Prize. Cash would go to whomever pays the electric bill.

4) Whomever maintains the system must be willing to ship it somewhere should they decide the electric bill or maintenance is too much for them. Details on cost etc. would need to be worked out ahead of time.

5) The OCN box would have it's own OCN BOINC Team accounts.

6) Paypal donations for electric bill would be emailed to all OCN BOINC Team members from time to time... maybe during BGB etc.

So, do you think something like this could be done? Please VOTE!

Thanks!

could work but a editor would seem like they would need to run it to be safe.

Needs to be run by the OCN admins tbh...

It's not that viable because of lack of transparency

Well, we could dedicate a thread to it and watch what it does. We are talking about a headless system too, so we could make it available through LogMeIn to any who needed/wanted to see how it was configured and running.

A lot of good suggestions. The idea is the box would be maintained by donations for hardware and get powered wherever it could...

OTOH, who would want to pay the electric bill if they were not getting the points?

Anyways, I just thought I would throw the idea out there and see what others thought..

I would suggest a watt meter connected to only that computer so power is a tad easier to calculate.

I think that it would work... but not sure it would be any benefit...

Oh well, I suppose we can just let it slide for now...
