RAID can be a bit tricky to the first timer.

1.) You to select the 2 drives you wish to raid.. and put them onto your SATA Bus. Then make sure to remember which ports you used. Such as SATA1 and SATA2. ( Your board may require you to use two specific ports..)

2.) Boot to Bios, and go into the chipset options, and enable the RAID Controller.

3.) Reboot.. after bios runs, you will get a RAID screen, usually text that says something like "Press F10 to Enter Raid Setup" and oyu get a couple seconds to do this.. if oyu miss it, no biggy, system wont find a boot device and will have to be rebooted.

4.) Once you are into the raid controller, you will create and array.. the array you want is a "STRIPE or a STRIPE SET". Select AUTO for the stripe size, or if that isnt available, select 64K

5.) After you create the array, MAKE SURE you select the option to make it BOOTABLE!!

6.) Now reboot.. the bios wont see your SATA drives anymore, since the RAID Bios is now controlling those two drives. Have your OS CD in the drive, and boot to the CD-ROM.

7.) If installing Windows.. make sure to press F6 during the opening setup screen when it asks if you have any third party controllers to add. (not 100% sure if that board has special drives.. but think it's the Silicon Image ones, unless you have the NVRAID.. both work the same pretty much). Once Windows load some drivers, if will stop and ask for the third party driver.. put in your floppy and tell it which ones to load. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A DRIVER FLOPPY OR ITS GOING TO BE A LONG NIGHT.

8.) Windows may ask for the floppy a couple more times.. then after reboot, it should boot to the Raid Array.

9.) Make sure after Windows is up, that you run the drivers setup for the controller you are using so Windows knows what to do with it.

Good luck..

well, would depend on the RAID BIOS you use. If it requires drivers that arent included as native to your OS, such as Windows.. you will need an install location to use.

And if the OS you are installing will read other locations besides A:\\

You can do a scripted Windows XP install that tells setup to look in other places, such as a uSB Fob, or a CD Drive..

but I aint going into how to script an install on a forum.. I would pull my hair out

Floppy drives are cheap, I keep one around as a spare just for such occasions. It doesn't have to be a permanent part of your system, just connect it when you need it.

You shouldnt need a floppy to set up RAID with that mobo or have to install any drivers. I didnt have to anyway. To set up RAID successfully on your board, I strongly suggest reading your manual. You cant go wrong.

I actually had to install Windows many times when setting up this system due to a few issues, and one time I did forget to install the drivers during the Windows install and it could not see my array.

I'm not sure how you set yours up without the drivers.

Mine has the Asus EZRAID thing. All I had to do was remove a jumper on the board. Now to get other hard drives to be recognized I had to reinstall windows, but other than that, EZ Raid is driverless.

ok, i set up a raid array, i have 2 drives on that array sata 0,1 and one drive which is not on the array. I put in the floppy disk and am loading the drivers fine, however when it comes time to setup windows (past the point of the drivers disk) it says it cannot find any harddrives. All the harddrives are installed in their respective sata slots 0,1(Raid array) and 4 (Non Raid) The SATA_RAID connector on my motherboard, i did not use and i didnt know what to do with it.

What should i do to get windows to see the harddrives?
