(Another Troubleshooting Thread) Possibly the PSU, wanting a second opinion before I end up mailing it off

So I'm building a computer with my left over parts. All I needed was a PSU/HDD/Case.

All other parts were from my previous build, which was known to function for years with no problem.

Old build
Ath2 @ 3.4 and later Ph2 @ 3.6
SLI gtx 260s
ASRock 870 Extreme3
Corsair 600w
Multiple HDDs, SSD
4gb ram and later 8gb RAM (G.skill)

Ran flawless.

I bought these items to build a scrap-PC

Rosewill Hive 650w
Rosewill Blackbone case
WD Blue 1 TB HDD

and added in my

ASRock 870 Extreme3
Ph2, also tried Ath2
8gb RAM, also tried 4gb RAM (Both G.skill 1600 kits)
EVGA gtx 260

Problem I'm having is random lock ups. Not BSOD, but lock ups. The image on the screen just locks up and the computer becomes non-responsive. It can happen doing anything. I've had it happen sitting in BIOS, while running memtest+, and while sitting at windows desktop. (Seems to happen faster when I run P95@ desktop)

Things I've tested so far

Various bios settings, defaults, underclocking, and previous saved OC settings.
Various voltages (I had this thing running tight in the past, I knew what all the part's limits were and I kept settings in what should of been very easily attained levels)
I've tried both my Athlon 2 and my Phenom 2 processors, problem is still the same
Tried 8gb ram (2x4gb) and 4gb ram (2x2gb), no change
Removed everything from the case to rule out a short, still the same
Lock up occurs in BIOS, memtest+, and at windows desktop
Windows installed and updated fine, sitting at the desktop doesn't seem to cause the lock up
Running P95 causes a lockup generally within 5 minutes or less (No threads fail)

So I'm at the conclusion that either the PSU is no good or my mobo died somehow sitting on my shelf for a year. Your thoughts?
AMD, I give up.

That does sound like a broken SSD/HDD

I had the same problem turned out my brand new SSD was FUBAR

But it could be the motherboard or the PSU as well cant tell you for sure

First of all what is the current OS drive and what was the OS drive previously?

New build has a brand new WD blue 1 TB, passes SMART perfectly. This issue occurs in the BIOS also, is it possible for a HD to freeze the computer in the bios?

Current OS drive is a WD Blue 1 TB, brand new. Passes SMART.

In the past build I've had
(OS) 4x Seagate 250gb enterprise drives in RAID5 (Those drives were total crap)
(OS)2x 500gb Seagate RAID0
(OS)60gb Force3 + 2x500gb Seagate RAID0
(OS)60gb Force3 + 2x500gb Seagate RAID0 + 2 TB Seagate

I'm using all previously proven parts except the HDD, PSU, and Case. Unless for whatever reason one of the previously good parts was damaged when put away for storage.

Did you clear CMOS before you installed the new OS drive? Are you using IDE,AHCI or AMD RAID drivers? I've seen some pretty funky behavior when switching between OS drives.Reason I ask is this sounds to me like SATA/HDD issues. I would make sure you only have 1 HDD installed, try different SATA ports and SATA cable. I would also swap out the new PSU with the old one to eliminate the PSU.

Cleared CMOS several times. AHCI mode is what I have it on & what I installed Win7 with. Also tried IDE mode. There is only 1 brand new HDD in the system (All those others are in my current system, or my HTPC) Have also tried 3 different SATA ports. Haven't tried a different SATA cable.

I'm resisting swapping the PSU to the old one because it's in my current main rig tucked very snugly inside my case.
AMD, I give up.

Made my brother bring his PC over (since i'm building this for him). Been running flawless with a Corsair 650w PSU for over 15 minutes now. Longest it's gone without freezing
