DIY GPU Backplate

Thread Starter
Im in the process of making my own backplate for my GPU. It is not meant for any kind of cooling. It will probably even increase my GPU temps by a degree or two~ but im running at about 50 degrees after hours of gaming with +140 clock +500mem, so I should be fine biggrin.gif

The back of my GPU, or tho it is black, it is still not too pretty with all the stickers and what not..
So I started looking at different backplates that would fit my card.. One thing that struck me, was that more or less ALL of them has some kind of text on them, and ofc they are all written so they would face the right way in a "normal" case.. but this is a standing GPU and therefore the text is gonna be up side down.. also I dont really care for all the visible screws on other backplates.
So I decided to make one myself.
I searched the forum and found that it has been done before, but not that many times it seams.
I also saw a post using printable labels to make some cool design for the plate! really nice idea!

I will put up a poll once I get further with this project, but here are a few candidates for the plate graphics:

I personally like the OCN a lot since it kinda has same "texture" as the other side of the XSPC block
The dragon is the same one that is sitting on top of my chipset and therefore follows my color scheme.
and the last one is just Zoidberg ;D

Post any ideas for the label design if you want a graphic in the poll
It has to be high quality/high DPI and has to look good in the case, so black / red is preferred, but not required.

If someone with skills in Gimp wanna make costume graphic for me, that would be great too!!
I'd like ^GaMbi to be written on the plate
A few years back I made a banner with a 12 layer "^GaMbi" but I followed a guide for this.

so I'm sure someone can do much better than I did! ?

A pic of the back of a card similar to mine

Meant to be used for a template for the plastic backplate. Holes fits perfectly

The test print turned out great! it looks SO detailed on this kind of glossy vinyl "paper" vs normal paper / matt photo paper.

Next up is the backplate(s) itself.
I think I got an old plastic cabinet laying around somewhere.. should be perfect for the job smile.gif
Still not sure how I'm gonna mount the thing. leaning towards velcro, since that will allow me that smooth surface, with no visible screws.

My Build Log can be found in my signature if you want more pics / info about my project.

Any comments, questions and ideas are welcome!

DONE ^^

Since I didnt get any graphic suggestions, I just went with the MSI dragon + a GIMP 3D ^GaMbi

It is held in place by two pieces of Velcro. and looks tight!!!
Was probably the easiest mod I have made in this case. Took 2 hours~ cutting the plate, finding the image, making the 7 layer ^GaMbi in GIMP, printing, cutting and mounting.

Thoughts?

Isnt it just? tongue.gif
In a case like mine (with windows all over) it really dose make a difference! looks SO much cleaner now ^^

really happy about how it turned out ^^ the A4 lables wasnt cheap! well.. 50 sheets for 50dollars.. I guess it could be worse.
But then again, If I only needed 1 sheet, it would seam quite expensive, hehe.. but im sure I will have use for the 49 left wink.gif
