256 MB DDR2 graphics card vs. 512 MB DDR2 graphics card

Thread Starter
I was going to purchase a new graphics card and was looking at the different types. I have a 4x agp. I was looking at a nVidia 7600GS. I was at newegg.com. I was just wondering if there is a big difference in performance between a 256mb DDR2 7600GS and a 512mb DDR2 7600GS--Both have 129-bit mem. bus.

Not really. The only difference is just how much texture memory it can hold. For graphic intensive games, the 512MB will be better.

If you only have a 18 inch screen ,with the lower rez's, I'd say just go with the 256meg. 512 would only benefit more with higher rez's, but still would improve, but not by what its worth.

Just go with the cheaper. The 512mb is obviously better, but pretty pointless in an agp system. If the 256mb is even $5 cheaper then go for that.

the 512 version will perform worse than its 256 meg counterpart. Reason being the 128 bit ringbus can not utilize 512.

ok. I am planning to run medeival 2 total war on a regular monitor with standard res.(1024x768). So I should definitely go for the 256 7600GS? Is there any card around that range that would perform better in an agp system?
