My Compu-Desk Sketchup..."Aurora"

The story....sorry its so long

So, after stalking the forums for awhile now, reading all the amazing builds and helpful insight, ive decided my next build needs to be special. Im not a fan of computer cases in general. To me, you guys spend a lot of money and ton of time on these builds and your work needs to be shown off in its entirety. We've seen the Cross-Desk and it is amazing. Its the most logical progression. I do see more products like it coming in the future and since i cant afford it, maybe i can design something close and have it built. I wanted serious power for photoshop, video editing and games.

The system:

CPU - i7 - 4930k
Motherboard - TBD (waiting on the Ive-E releases)
RAM - TBD
Video - 2x Gigabyte 670 (perhaps 3 way if and when this is actually made)
SSD - 2x Vertex4 256GB
Storage - 2x 1TB HDD
Power - TBD

And now the horrific sketches. Im just getting started and i just wanted some feedback before i go further. I got the program a few days ago so dont expect much....

I have no clue how to make bends in the tubing on this program so the runs are gonna look a little wonky.

off to work. biggrin.gif

I dont really need anything in the right side as of now but i do need the surface space on top for work. If anyone has any suggestions im all ears. I do have a 7 inch touch laying around that i have no clue what to do with. I took it out of an old music production system i bought awhile back. If anyone knows of anything cool i can do with that, that'd be awesome.

Have you considered laying your GPUs out horizontally using PCI-E extenders? wink.gif
If I were you I'd put them where the HDD/SSDs are and put the drives in the compartment on the back. (Perhaps leave the SSDs in the main chamber because sexiness)
Or perhaps GPUs on the right side, aligning them with the motherboard for some symmetry.

Maybe you could output some sensor readings on the touch and stick it in there, using it as a display? Or eventually use it as a software fan/pump controller - if it is possible.
Why not build a little platform that moves on rails for it so that you can pull it out, set your fan/pump settings and then stick it back in the desk.

I'm just throwing ideas out, I hope I'm not getting too carried away. wink.gif

Not at all. Good ideas, some i had myself. Firstly, the HDD, yea i really dont like them out in front like that. Maybe ill put them underneath or in back. Pretty much wherever theres room. Now as far as the GPU's go, I like the idea of separating them but if i were to do it, id want them both laid out separately. That would open up a can of worms i really dont want to get into. I want to make this design as simple as possible for my guys or whomever makes the desk. Simple cutouts for brackets and panels that i can find easily online and wont require any creative custom designs from them.

Turns out my touchscreen is 15". Id love to find a place for this bad boy and make it functional in some way. I dont think im tech savy enough to figure that out right now but we'll get to that.

I just want to thank everyone who already created a lot of these models for all of us to use. Ill gladly share the file once im close to a final design.
