Issues while OC..

Thread Starter
Evening all,

As some of you may know, I've recently put together my first rig (listed below). Being the novie that I am, I've tried to read up on any and all FAQ's found on OC.net (including NoAffinity's thread on OC).

I've disabled the Spectrum and went right into the JumperFree Config and set the 1:1 ratio. I got the FSB up to about 332 (3.0GHz) and it seems to be somewhat stable. Prime 95 works fine though Othros reports hardware failure after about 3min.

Despite increasing Vcore, anything above 332 FBS seems to be very unstable and unresponsive in the OS, frozen black screens on bootup or the OS failing to boot altogether.

I've also run CPU-Z and it reports my multiplier at 6, while I understand that C2D run at a X9. Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

What are your temps like mate? It aint the best program but you will have got Asus Pc Probe with the mobo to find out the temps.

I assume you're using the stock heatsink/fan (HSF)? You also using the thermal interface material (TIM) that came with the HSF?

Also, CPU-Z reporting the 6x multi will be because you have 'Speedstep' enabled. This drops the multi to 6x (and therefore drops the speed) when the CPU is idling to save power and heat. Nothing to worry about, but might affect an everyday overclock, but shouldn't be the cause of your problem as you're 100%-ing the CPU so speedstep wont kick in.
