Windows Defender give error on startup.

Ok so im working on this laptop.

Windows Defender is apparently installed, but I cant seem to find it in program files or the windows folder. It causes an error on startup even though its disabled saying that it had a fatal error and needs to close (or something like that). Any attempt install it fails, its not enabled in startup. Can someone please try and diagnose this?

Windows version? If 8 or 7 go to control panel and you should see a windows defender option. Go there and either disable, manually update, or tell it that another application is monitoring.

7 and the problem is that I cant do any of those things. I can disable it and thats as far as it goes. I cant hit any other buttons.
