Yeah. You must see if its ''45nm CPU ready '' (thats from my asus spec) and pay attention on that . As u know they have ...45, 60, 95nm CPUs arch so be careful.
Edit: Bios support too.
Edit 2: As I see ur mb support dual core wolfdale CPUs such is core2duo e8400 which is based on 45nm arch so Im 99% shure of compatibility with ur board.

My opinion GO WITH XEON!!!!!

I have a e8400 a customer gave me after he upgraded. So I plan to get the mobo on the latest bios with that.

It looks like all systems are go for a xeon. I will post here when I get it all together. I have to order the xeon chip still.

Back with more weirdness. A few weeks ago I posted about an apparent boost in performance after updating the microcode in bios.

Would updating the cpu microcode explain this performance bump?

I test again today and the values have returned to normal. How can this be explained? Was it just a weird benchmark glitch?

I've never run this benchmark before so I have no clue how good or bad this score is.

Does anyone know the pad layout of the 771? I'm looking to do the BSEL-mod now that I have the 771-to-775 mod figured out. I have already ordered a Xeon cpu with 800fsb (had to order special "Low-Voltage" model to get the desired bus speed) Before you guys tell me how cheap 1333fsb 771 cpu's are, I am doing this just to see if I can. Yes, if I wanted to, I COULD just run out and buy a 1333 cpu. But what fun would THAT be, lol?

p.s.- This may be a silly question, but- Does raising the fsb raise the voltage of the cpu in any way? Does it raise the wattage requirement?
I had done the BSEL mod so to test if the 1333bus cpu will run at 1600bus with Vcore energy saving mode active.
In a P5Q Deluxe.
It did not.
Motherboard was able to POST and even run windows at stock Vcore but Vcore was always high (full load value).

So, why would you do the BSEL in a motherboard that supports overclocking?
It is only useful to motherboards that have no FSB adjustment.

I understand you got a 800 bus spu so to get a high multiplier. But that does not mean you have to mess with BSEL.
Neither that you`ll get higher speed than a cpu with a lower multiplier.

I appreciate your response. I wish to do this as a "mind-exercise". I am aware there is no performance to be gained. I have always tried to tread off the beaten path! I used to have the 478-to-775 adapter on an older board, just because I could! Call it the rebellious spirit in me, lol!

P.S- I am NOT here to "troll"! These are honest questions from a curious rookie attempting to expand his horizons when it comes to computer hardware. I use to be VERY knowledgeable about hardware from the time of 486 dx2's all the way up to Socket 478's. Then I kind of fell behind the times and am now trying to catch up. I appreciate everyone's patience with what may seem like foolish questions. I DO have an LGA 1150 computer, so I am NOT doing this for performance-sake! I do realize my 1150 will always blow away ANYTHING I can do with the 775! I do this for fun and am glad to find other adventurous spirits who enjoy tinkering with their machines! I am NOT rich enough to attempt mods like this on my newer hardware. The 775 is perfect for not being too slow, but old enough to have cheap parts. Even I had to finally quit tinkering with the 478's, lol! There was only so much you could squeeze out of 15 year old technology!
