I have my low power L5410 and my thoughts before seting up this mod was that overclock gona be greatwith that low thermal characteristics , but it isnt!
I can increase just about 0.4-0.45GHz max. Sistem become unstable and I have famous blue screan ofc. How you get those speeds guys? My mboard isnt full hi end peace, but my old pentium d 820 get 3.6 easily (from 2.8). So whats happening here? Ist low power ''L'' series fgs o.O!!!!!!

What`s your motherboard?
Most probably you have a motherboard that has an FSB wall (practical limit) at around 400 - 420FSB.
Your Pentium D 820 has a 14x multiplier. So for 3.6Ghz it needs only 257FSB.

Still your L5410 even at stock speed is far faster, far more energy efficient and by an enormous amount more heatsink friendly.
Being silent cooled when the D 820 needs a tornado whistling your ears.
The L5410 supports all the needed features and you can even install win 8.1 while with the D820 can`t (now I`m thinking you may).
Whatever heavy work you have you can throw it to the L5410 and it will be done, without hesitation while maintaining fast system response.

So there is simply no comparison.
Don`t complain.
You just got the cheapest upgrade, a lot cheaper than a Q6600, still have better perf/efficiency/heat dessipation than Q6600 on a cheap motherboard. What else to ask?
You could give a little more and take a E5450/X5450 (X if your mobo supports more than 95W cpus)

To give you an idea...
A sample of a great upgrade.

A friend has an Asus P3-P5G31 barebone system with a Pentium Dual Core E2180, running at 1.256V full load.
This cpu is far faster than your Pentium D 820. Just to let you know.
The P3-P5G31 uses a cheap P5KPL-VM motherboard with modified bios, leaving no FSB adjustment at all to the user. As this barebone has a 220W PSU, only.

I`ll upgrade his system to a Xeon E5420.
The cpu will run at 1.160V full load. With the same or even less total power consumption, even if it will be Quad core with a lot more cache, thus a lot more transistor count.
The same heatsink will be used.

It will be a VAST upgrade.
Even with the cheap E5420.
From windows XP he runs now he`ll be using windows 7 64.
From stuttering 1080p flash (youtube) he will be able to do video editing while he watches 1080p. (Note the system has the onboard G31 graphics and will still be using this)

I may try to crossflash his motherboard to P5KPL-VM bios so to gain FSB adjustment, but I may not.
The system at 2.5Ghz Quad Core 12MB cache will be running faster than his needs.
I know, I had one L5420 stock, I run now a L5430 stock speed.

And all this will cost him nothing.

BTW. this is my L5430, undervolted.

Just registered to post - My HP Voodoo Firebird took very well to the X5460 I got on Ebay!

SSE4.1 and SpeedStep worked *without* any modifications necessary, besides physically removing the keyed socket marks and placing the proper adapter sticker.

I'm working on other mods, but this processor bring my Firebird back to live for sure. It's also got 2x8GB DDR2-800 and a single MXM Quadros 3000M with an aftermarket closed-loop watercooler (using the original Firebird's MXM and chipset blocks).

I may have screwed this plan up. My asrock g41 vs2 only supports 105watt tdp on the asrock website specs.

I had read it supported 130 watt on http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASRock/G41M-VS2.html. I ordered a x5460. Its 120watt tdp. Im thinking it wont work now.

I m going to try anyway. 105 is a strange tdp. Chips are 95watt or 120watt.

Hi all!

Just wanted to thank the community for the support to this mod.

I wanted to post another working setup:

Xeon E5450 @ 3.4GHz / FSB 1500 (temperature - min. 42°C max 63°C
Thermalright HR-02 Macho
2x 4096MB DDR3 1600 @ 1200 MHz 9-9-9-24 Kingston HyperX
Asus P5KC with MOD BIOS from this website
Palit Sonic 560 Ti 1GB @ 850 / 2100

I think I need to apply more pressure between the cooler plate and the cpu.

Edit: Did some overclocking smile.gif !

I had to add .rom at the end of my rom file to make it show up.
