He was already informed in LGA 771 -> 775 Support thread
BTW
QX9775 is renamed Xeon X5482 with C0 stepping. Even maximum operating temperature in datasheets is the same for both of them (lower than LGA775 quads).

QX9770 http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2/Intel-Core%202%20Extreme%20QX9770%20EU80569XL088NL%20(BX80569QX9770).html

QX9775 http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2/Intel-Core%202%20Extreme%20QX9775%20EU80574XL088N%20(BX80574QX9775%20-%20BX80574QX9775A).html

I'm staring at the specs right there.. the only difference what so ever is 771 vs 775, different pin count/socket, and slightly different temps, and the TDP on the 771 chip is +14 watts higher. Everything else is exactly the same as the desktop chip. According to cpu world, even the QX9775 can run slightly hotter, 65c vs 55c of the desktop chip.

It's just like with Q9550 and E5440 and X3363. What you miss is that not only contact layout is slightly different, but also specific lands have different purpose. Even on LGA771 platform there are differences in land's functionality. Thats why you can't run Xeons designed for single cpu platform on dual processor server mobo. Because of those differences LGA775 X and Q series chipsets work only with moded Xeons designed for single cpu platform and don't run with 54xx. If we had full datasheet of intel Xeon 3xxx for LGA 771 and compared it to 54xx sequence most likely we could make them work. Possibly even 3xxx could work in tandem and that is why intel didn't sheared those documents. 5xxx series was more expensive than 3xxx, so they were charging premium for this additional functionality. All other datasheets are available on their website.
if you compare QX9775 to X5482 C0 you will notice they are exactly the same, except QX has unlocked multiplier. QX9775 was a cpu designed for use in intel's flagship platform called skulltrail. It was basically rearranged dual processor server motherboard with 5400 series chipset. It could also work with Xeons 5xxx series because those were supporting dual processor configurations. Since Q and X series chipsets work only with Xeons designed for single cpu platform (like X3363) therefore it won't work with his "rebranded X5482".
Hope you get it now

I must confirm that one of the Xeon CPU's failed to boot on this board(with the sticker). Although I will give it a try, patch the microcodes, will try to figure it out. Maybe it is time to soldier the CPU pins smile.gif Any ideas?

Sell that QX before you hurt yourself or your equipment and buy X3363, it should overclock above 4GHz and there are problems with 1600 FSB Xeons (QX being renamed X5482) on many motherboards anyway.

I already ordered QX9650. So summing up I will have:

P5E3 Premium
G41 motherboard(Intel)
E8500
QX9650
QX9750

I am not going to hurt myself, I like doing such things. Will need to embrace some knowledge, but doing my own mod for LGA775/LGA771 sounds nice. I tried once to soldier the CPU after it did not work, but let's say my skills and equipment was not as good as now. It is perfectly possible, so keep the so called 'adult' (at west) 'before you hurt yourself or your equipment' to you wink.gif

What I can say, G41 motherboard can go to the bin, same goes for QX9750. We can do sort of an experiment smile.gif We can even try something with P5E3 premium, although I would like it to come out alive of that.

Well, for starters I didn't bought useless cpu for wrong platform applaud.gif
And now you ordered QX9650 when Q9650 E0 stepping overclocks better thumb.gif

Yawn. QX9650 vs Q9650 OC results - give me the proper source or get lost.

Yaaaawn. QX9650 allows for more relax O.C(due to unlocked multiplayer and memory settings)

Yaaaaaaaaawn. Instead of using opportunity to experiment - which I sincerely give you - you prefer to attack me. Different strokes, for different folks...

First is easy, usually E0 stepping core 2 quad cpus overclock better than C0/C1. This is because they require less voltage. The same goes for their Xeon counterparts. For example on my motherboard good X5450 E0 requires around 1,28V @ 4GHz to be stable at the same frequency X5450 C0 stepping needs 1,4V and that brings it much closer to the danger of damage or degradation.
Of course I'm not talking about extreme overclocking where you can go subzero and where limiting factor is motherboard's ability to handle high FSB. As you said QX can nullify it with higher multiplier setting.
I just don't see a point to experiment with such expensive equipment, seams like a waste. Why not buy a cheap single / dual core Xeon and try that instead?
Maybe someone, somewhere needs a QX9775 to complete his skulltrail build and don't forget - they don't make them anymore.

Any luck yet? Just got my second machine online and on this screen, to get all cores working properly, the CPU N/2 Ratio had to be 'Enabled'

Nope, I tried that, didn't work. 4 cores show in "device manager" but only 2 are available in "msconfig".
