quick question guys...

i got asrock g31m-s and xeon 5410... it works fine and all so i thought id upgrade ram a bit... found cheap 4gb sticks(kingston kvr800d2ng) and the thing is the pc wont recognise them. in bios motherboard sees the sticks as 2mb only. it wont even boot if i dont put in the 1gb stick along the 4gb one. i tried manually setting ram, volts and so on but it just wont work. i tried memory mapping too and memory compatibility setting aswell. i cant find the qvl for this motherboard since asrock on its website has only for the rev 2.0. any ideas guys? how could i check ram for errors? i mean its not even recognized correct so will mem test even work on it?

edit: in cpuz i cant see spd or northbridge...i think that should be visable shouldnt it? like jedec and stuff?

Can anyone here mod this bios? Bios modding is above my head.

Kingston KVR800D2N6/4G - 4GB DDR2 800Mhz PC2-6400 CL6 240pin - AMD ONLY! Up for sale are 4GB sticks of Kingston KVR800D2N6/4G ram. Listing as new(other) because I bought for my intel motherboard and these did not work for intel systems. Apparently they are only compatible with AMD CPU systems. <--- Maybe the problem?? All the 4 gig sticks of DDR2 that are compat with intel I've seen on the "bay" have been running @ least $45 & up,mostly outta China. It's low density ram,non ecc.

well they are not...asrock has them in their QVL for the motherboard(albeit its rev 2.0). i even mailed them about it and they still havent responded so im fairly certain its not amd only. any other ideas?

For the dell OEM boards, are they proprietary or will they fit into a standard ATX case? I was interested in buying maybe one to use for a 771->775 build, but I'm worried about not having a case for it

the full size boards fit a full size case no problem, it's the externals that bite ya in the butt (so to speak) running a vostro 220 in a non dell case right now. Here's how I got around it. http://www.ihatedell.net/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=14822

i see i see. I hope this works on some of the other boards too, I was considering the 220 but the maximum of 4 GB ram made me a bit hesitant

If you're getting your memory capacity from Dell don't trust it. Go to Crucial.com and check there. Dell only lists what they sold. Crucial guarantees their kits to work. Some places list My E520 as 4GB DDR2-667, but i'm running 8GB DDR2-800 no problems. Sometimes crucial will shortchange you on speed. BIOS versions make a difference too. Look up your chipset spec. to see what the real limit could be. I say could because Dell might still shortchange you in their BIOS.

ah no, it's because the 220 has only 2 ram slots haha
