(SIGH) No,they DON'T work PROPERLY without having the bios modded. They post and some windows versions will run, but you are NOT getting the full features of the cpu. Compare the instuctions listed in MY screenshot post o the ones you posted The items missing(SSE4.1,VT-x) are what's enabled with the bios mod. Please don't post that "no mod is needed " when all functions arent available without it! rolleyes.gif

Yeah I know that guy.. just confirm that an OEM G31/G41 mobo like lenovo can run the Xeon 5xxx series too but HP G31 is not working. OEM manufacturer they locked some perfomance setting or config in bios make some CPU feature not working with full performance. we can use the SET FSB app to set the clock multipiler to work at full speed guy. and it work with no problem on P5KPL AM/PS on stock speed and OC.

Thanks guy.

And without sse4.1 and VT-x being enabled on those cpu's , you won't be able to install later Windows OS (8.1,10) They ck for the features if the installed cpu is supposed to have them. If not there, windows fails. If the cpu ISN'T supposed to have them(like on older dual core cpu's) then it'll still install fine. Sooo, a bios mod IS needed for FULL CPU FUNCTION! Also, some won't run the cpu fans properly until the xeon microcode is added to the bios. THAT'S what the mod does by the way, adds the xeon code to the bios. The c2d/c2q have the same codes, but the platform is different. (e.g. 1067a platform 11 for the 775 cpu's vs platform 44 for the 771cpu's.) Your xeon MAY run using the 775 microcode, but it won't have all the features for the 771 cpu and will just create issues.

Well I've been playing around with my X5450 and got some decent results I think...

X5450@4.1Ghz 1.30V

https://valid.x86.fr/tv3iz0

Unfortunatly I only have one decent 2x2GB DDR2 Kit to push him, but managed to get another kit from ebay. For those who don't know DFI's are known for being a little bit picky with RAM sticks and mine is very sentimental... So is very hard to find a decent kit that suits her... smile.gif

My latest dirty cheap 771-to-775 build ($100)...just ordered it an X5450 to keep costs down...hopefully it'll be comfortable at around 3.2-3.33GHz on this board. Rig is listed in my profile under "HP Sauced", as it uses a modded OEM Hewlett Packard case.

Otherwise, is the cpu rockstable at 1.30 V?
This guy I screened can do 450 fsb at 1.2625 V Vcore bios, on an Asus board with LLC on, under prim95 blend test
