Is Audioengine N22 Amp good for my setup?

I am trying to connect two tower speakers to a PC and was told that I needed to get an amp. I am wondering if the N22 is good enough for connecting the speakers to amp and then to pc. I am trying to keep it under $200. All suggestions are welcome.

That's 22W per channel, which is really weak. I like to tell people to go on craigslist for a receiver. Slightly older Denon, Yamaha, HK, Marantz, etc. If you get a receiver with digital inputs you can use it as your DAC, instead of motherboard audio.

Err for my PC/Nearfield my 10-12 wpc into 8 ohm Lepai TA2020 plays louder than i ever need with 89dB Polks so the point is

a. How far away is your listening position

b. What sort of speakers u pairing the amp with?

That said if you are on the hunt for a small amp i'd say the N22 offers bad value for money. In your shoes i'd either look at

a. Tripath based amps from TA2020 or TK2050

b. For $200ish the Emotiva Mini-X A100?

Yeah I almost recommended that too, but it was a little over budget. Emotiva is top notch quality wise.

Thanks for all your advice. I had a pioneer reciever in my basement that I am using with tower speakers that I was trying to hook up. It seems like a good setup and I only spent $40 on cables smile.gif
