Upgrade i7 4820k or i7 4770k

Thread Starter
Hi,

i`m planning to upgrade my well served P67 i5 system to a bit newer z87 or x79.
Currently my 2500k is running @ 5Ghz so overclocking is the point.

So what do you think?

z87:

Maximus VI Formula + 4770k

x79

Rampage IV Formula + 4820k

There`s not so big price difference between these sets...
Can`t decide... wheee.gif

Sorry, forget to mention, definitely for oc`ing, gaming and little for editing.
I have 2x 660GTX and now i`m running them @ 2.0 8x and 8x, there might be a difference compared to x79 3.0 16x/16x?

for maximum performance go with the 4820K but if you want a little power savings grab the haswell

At stock the 4820k is actually at bit slower than the 4770k, but it will probably oc higher because of the soldered ihs, In benchmarks the 4820k does outperform the 4770k in sli configurations.

I wouldn't look at the cpu's, they perform nearly identical, just look at the mobo's and look for features you need.

That`s what i thought, think i`ll go for a 4820k and Rampage IV formula, then there is an option to upgrade to a hexacore if needed.
4770k is a great performer i know, but i`m a bit concerned about the oc results and heat issues.
I`m more than pleased with the features that RIVF offers

I vote on the 4820k as it will allow you to upgrade to 4930k or 4960x if you ever need to do so.

I also have a 2500k running @5.1ghz on a Msi Z68a-GD-65 board, it's about 2.5 yrs old now and am looking for a little more power and the pci-e 3.0 and 2/3/4x16 lanes. So I decided on the 4820k over the six core 4930k, mostly because I don't do anything except gaming on my cpu. So here's the bundle I am ordering-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1420863
Can't wait to put this baby together^
The 4770k is a decent cpu if you don't mind being stuck at 4.5ghz. After reading more about the 4770k, the new instructions, I realized much of the newer technology is useless for gaming currently and will not halt better performance until games support it.
