You people make me sick.

Seriously? Nitpicking over interior design now?

Anyone who has been in any sort of information center type room in any industry knows they all look like this.

The same budget would have been used no matter what the inside of the room looked like, maybe you idiots should go and learn how compartmentalized government spending really is, you know nothing about how the government spends money. The fault lies with the people who make the budget, your congressmen and women, it has nothing to do with the people who actually spend it. Why you ask? Because once the money is budgeted, it is gone. If you don't spend it it doesn't go back to the government, it doesn't go anywhere, and if you don't spend it this year next year you will be cut, and what if you need money for essential items next year? There is no way to reliably get a budget increase.

This country's people are degrading at a rate faster than we can keep up. Right on fools.

If a corporation wants to spend lavish amounts of money on a conference room, that's fine (still wasteful) they earned that money with their business selling products. It wasn't given to them by tax payers to spend on education, health care, etc.

I guess you're correct about that 2nd statement... you and many other 'fools' seem to perfectly fine with our government officials building lavish work areas at our country's expense. We don't (or weren't supposed to) pay taxes for them to waste on 'pet' projects in the work place.

How about nearly $160,000 for a couple of replica sculptures of robed maidens and another $323,000 for a quartet of lavish chandeliers? ... The exterior doors of the Capitol cost taxpayers $670,000.

I wish I was making this stuff up. I got an email from my rep about a week ago concerning this and he told me he and the rest of the reps has no idea this was approved. It was done behind their back by only four people. This is absolutely disgusting.

Edit: How about the billion dollar embassy we built in Iraq a few years ago? Almost forgot about that.

What's funny, is that people will gripe about anything. Build it to be modernistic people gripe. Build it to be only functional and people gripe. You can't please everyone. I for one am glad some of my taxes are helping build something that looks halfway decent. Studies have shown that people are far more productive when working in newer modern digs instead of cold war barracks style buildings.

It looks similar to the Reality Centers SGI has been building for decades;

It doesn't have to be ridiculously expensive to look halfway decent though.
