[AC/AT]NVIDIA announces the Tegra Note,NV Designed Android Tablet, Sold by NVIDIA Partners - Page 2

Give this a 1080P screen and 2GBs+ of RAM and these will sell like hotcakes. biggrin.gif

This is bad news for Nvidia. They were pushing out a decent amount of tegra chips through the Nexus 7, but with the updated version using qualcomm, and the failure of Nvidia's shield, they have a surplus of chips that nobody wants. Plus they are the brand now, and not just the supplier. Ask anyone who doesnt work or have a IT hobby, 'Nvidia' means nothing to them, while nexus/google or apple/ipad do. And thats just the tip of their competition, there are like 5 very popular tablet makers, and dozens of Chinese ones. I wont be surprised if this gets half decent reviews, but it wont gain nvidia any market share and they certainly wont make much if any money off this venture.

I ran 3 games
Need for speed most wanted
Real Boxing
Flatout

and nothing ran better with more than 1 core enabled(Tegra3), even Android 4.0.1 ran faster with 1 core

1200*800? That really isn't good enough IMO. The Nexus 7 and upcoming 2013 Nexus 10 are still THE android tablets to buy. And the iPad as well is still a great product. So where does this cheap tablet fit in? I've seen 150$ full HD 1920x1080 stock android tablets. For this I expected cutting edge - that resolution is just pathetic and is a horrible fit for their so called premiere tablet chip.

Pretty disappointed, this will not be a compelling product compared to anything else on the market. The nexus 7 is just outright better in every way with the qualcomm chip, and then there's the iPad mini which will sport a retina resolution for the 2013 model. 1200x800 is not good enough.

Ram wise it's disappointing. BUT, at 12800*800, those Nvidia enhanced gaming titles (which they'll most likely want to show off) might suffer in performance if they had to render both the enhanced editions and full 1080p. At 1280*800, Nvidia can balance the load needed for the enhanced graphics and the load needed to push a crap ton of pixels.

Honestly, I don't really care about gaming on android or tablets in general - Android doesn't offer a compelling gaming experience unless you consider simplistic smartphone games to be fun. The Tegra 4 may have a few specific games but overall android just sucks for a real gaming experience IMO. So if NV is gunning for games and games alone with their tab I wish them luck - but the mass market wants more than "just games" in a tablet. They want a compelling experience, high end specs, a high resolution screen, among other things. Gaming ranks about dead last in terms of what typical tablet purchasers look for in a tablet.

Most folks use their tablets for occasional light gaming (if they game at all) and don't care for cutting edge graphics, so "games" aren't a valid excuse for such a poor screen resolution - this is aside from the general mass market who only uses their tabs for rudimentary web functions and media consumption. That is what most folks use tablets for and that is why the iPad and Nexus have sold so well - they're both compelling, excellent products. When I look at this Tegra tab I can't think of any compelling reason to get it over an iPad or a Nexus 7 - if I wanted to game, I'd rather just game on a dedicated full size gaming laptop or my desktop and get a proper experience in full HD, really..

some big gaming industry leaders would disagree with you on that.
