WiFi Routers and adult websites filtering - Page 5

So what you're telling us is that students are allowed to view pornography as long as they are using a direct wired connection to the professionally installed network, but if they decide to use the student implemented WiFi running to the exact same network, they are filtered? Sounds like an incompetent IT department with about as much experience as you in the field of enterprise networks. I'd contact somebody higher up about the situation; you're paying for a private school, the least they could do is provide quality services to the students and faculty.

I'm all for unlimited internet access for students for appropriate uses I encourage you look into this further, but don't get yourself into something like this without further knowledge on the subject or you risk getting into some trouble.

1. The school is a f*cking private one (sorry for the French)! Your parents must be paying ***** loads of money for your education at this school.

2. It is not your responsibility to set up the network, it's the responsibility of the school.

3. The excuse "We don;t have enough funds..." is not justifiable because it is a PRIVATE SCHOOL.

4. Ask your fellow students and their parents to sign a petition to get those lazy bast*rds to set it up. It is a good idea, only if precautions are taken.

5. You are asking for a lot of trouble if you attempt to set up the network yourself.

Rant over. You're young and you want to help, but always take a step back and think before you take an action.

the excuse "we dont have enough funds" is applicable for my school.
we pay a huge amount of money (not going to state how much but you can buy a cheap car each damn year) to the school and HALF (yes, half) of it directly goes to the kids in erzurum.
erzurum is a bit less-developed city of turkey and thanks to the school's university administrators (deans and the establishers) we weren't even asked if we wanted to send half the money to kids we dont even know.
yet still, our school doesnt get water cups (the plastic/paper ones) because "we're an ecoschool" but we kinda source it to the money running out as a new building was made last year biggrin.gif

Whatever you do, DO NOT MESS WITH A SCHOOL NETWORK. The principal can do it herself if she wants it so bad. Also, If the wired isn't filtered, why should the wireless be? The network at my school has NO FIREWALL, NO VPN, NO SONICWALL, or any other filtering. The network is made up of old 10mbps thicknet. The only reason why it still works is because it was installed by real IT guys.
