The clockrate is locked at 2.1 GHz for the standard p-states P3-P0 (1.4-2.1 GHz). It only lets me increase the clockrate to higher than 2.1 GHz with the turbo p-states Pb2-Pb0 but I am also able to change the voltage so that will let me dial in the clockrate and voltage that I want. I tried the highest turbo p-state at stock clocks and volts (Pb0 which is 3.1 GHz @ 1.312) and it appears to be unstable because it crashed within seconds. The 2nd highest turbo p-state (Pb1 which is 2.8 GHz @ 1.250v) was stable (I haven't thoroughly tested yet, obviously) and my cinebench 11.5 score increased from 1.73 to 2.30. The lowest turbo p-state got me 1.98. With a laptop cooling pad, Pb1 took me to 78C and Pb2 took me to 66C.

At this point, I have a lot of testing ahead of me. I gotta find the highest voltage I'm comfortable with using and of course stress test it. Since my laptop has dual graphics (the GPU built-in to the APU and the discrete GPU), I'm also going to have to test if I get better results with higher CPU overclocks and just using the discrete GPU or if I get better results with lower CPU overclocks and using both GPUs.

I want to thank you all again for helping me out. I've got my work cut out for me but this kind of work I'm happy to do smile.gif

It depends on the game (driver support, cpu stress etc). And thanks for the info, no-one seems to mess with pscheck much.

From what I gather, Trinity (and likely richland) doesn't have the absurd voltage headroom that the older APUs had. Still, you should start lowering the voltage on those p-state until you hit the brink of stability, then underclock/volt the lowest p-state for battery life biggrin.gif

400mhz idle and 2700mhz P0 makes for a beastly llano machine, richland can probably do something similar.

Well, I'm still playing around with it but it seems like the highest p-state (Pb0) is stuck at 3.1 GHz (won't let me go higher OR lower) and isn't stable no matter what voltage I select even though the next p-state down (Pb1) will run a cinebench run at 2.8 GHz @1.062v. I haven't tried a lower voltage than that yet. Since it won't let me select a higher clock in each p-state than stock, it appears that I won't be able to get higher than 2.8GHz even though my APU might be capable of it. But I'm ecstatic just to be able to run it at 2.8 GHz from the 2.1 GHz. Not too shabby
