Have you used any so called, "Registry Sweepers" lately, those have been known to **** stuff up. Also, google the error message and see if anything useful comes up.

sorry for double posting but i found a solution.

if you get "Read more about steps you can take to resolve this problem (error number 0x8DDD0003) yourself." message every time you visit Microsoft Update website try this.

1. Start button
2. run
3. type "gpedit.msc"
4.. Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication settings
5. on the right hand side look for a option that says "Turn off access to all Windows Update Features"
6. right click that item and click Properties
7. and click on the "Disabled" checkbox.
8. Click "apply" and then "ok"

Thanks alot for the answer given here. I had a customer computer with tons of spyware and viruses. After cleaning it up I had this problem. I went through many other steps looking for changed policies in gpedit. I also had tried reregistering many services. I tried many other solutions offered on the net but this one, "disabling" the restrict all access to Windows update fixed both the greyed out issue and the error I was getting on the Windows update site.
