OCing 3570k purchased back in SEPT '12.

I have an ASROCK z77 Extreme4 and an intel 3570k. I never overclocked, because I didn't see the need. I have a hyper 212 evo and decided after a year, to increase the lifespan of my current PC I'd overclock.
After countless blue screens I got a stable clock at 4.4 running at 1.216. Looking at recent OC's this seems like an extremely high clock to voltage ratio. I'm wondering if anyone who has a year old 3570k is seeing similar ratios. The highest temp after an hour p95 torture test was 83 on one core, no other core reached over 80. I have no real desire to go above 4.4, unless someone here recommends trying it. Just looking for some pointers, I saw pics of 5.0s stable at 1.0*V and that is clearly unattainable for my chip.

Didn't think that would matter. Purchased 750 with a plan to SLI 670s, but after gaming saw no need.

You wont find many chips that do 5.0 on 1.0V...that just doesn't happen, and I cant recall seeing one. Your voltages are fine for 4.4, your wall is temperature, not voltage. You don't have a Olympic gold chip, but its no slacker either. 4.5 should be attainable somewhere around 1.265, but again...with more volts comes more temps. The hyper212 is the baseline in coolers...upgrading to a Noctura, AIO watercooler, or a full custom loop will net you better temps, and allow for higher volts and higher clocks.

I have arctic paste, and the 212 evo I never planned to OC until recently, just figured $40 for guaranteed cool temps was worth the investment.
If you think this is a good clock to volt ratio then I'll leave it. I'll try to find the chips I was referring to. They were newer chips. I may try for 4.5, is that as high as you'd attempt? I don't plan to upgrade cooling, but may use some more of the paste I have and redo the setting.

I was off on the voltage I was thinking of. I was thinking of a 1.106 and that is a 4.5, NOT a 5.0. I was comparing my chip to something that is completely unrealistic.

Oh good. That is a good PSU.

 

The PSU is actually just about the most important part (it's basically a critical component) because not only is it responsible for converting the raw power from the outlet into high quality usable power for the computer (something that requires high-quality components and a good design to achieve), but it also needs to be able to handle the stress of overclocking. The PSU you have is good for overclocking, or 100% safe, so you're all set.

 

To make a comparison, if you had something like a Diablotek PSU or something really bad like that, then I'd be giving you very grave warnings about the risk of the PSU dying while overclocking and killing your computer when it dies. Of course, before it dies it would be converting the raw power from the wall outlet into low quality, "dirty" and unstable power which would make overclocking difficult while the PSU is still alive.

 

So yeah, the PSU can make a huge difference and I am relieved to know that you have a good one.

So is the consensus to leave the oc as is? What's .1ghz in the grand scheme? I'm not into dick wavin jus wanna get tw Rome 2 to not run so poorly. At a year old I feel my sys should still run at max, if crazy please tell me. I have a LOT of disposable income, jus wanted to last till the tock of the new intel arch

.1 GHz is 100 MHz. It's a tiny difference, pretty much impossible to notice.

 

So, 4.4 GHz is 4,400 MHz, and 4.5 GHz is 4,500 MHz.

I think I would.

 

By the way: the core voltage of that 5.0 GHz overclock you found is 1.208V, not 1.0. These are rare chips. Most of them overclock like yours.
