I know some will argue that it has to hold up a truck but in reality, pretty much any case on the market is plenty robust.
Feature wise, they don't really offer anything that you can't get elsewhere, you're just paying for a sturdy, well made case..... though not really gaining anything other piece of mind really.
The majority of cases are mostly steel, which has already been noted here, is more durable. But most cases also use a lot of plastic for toolless drives, fascia, and other misc. parts. These are the parts that tend to be less robust, and in my opinion, give those cases a cheap feel.
I agree with you that once a build is complete, it doesn't much matter how sturdy it is - this isn't some 4x4 we're taking off-roading. But I think there are plenty of features that still set CL apart and are the reason I chose my SM8. Here are some of my faves:
Flex Bays - Offers amazing customizability. You don't have to cut out those pesky drive bays and cages. If you do need anything like a fan controller or a bay res, they have a unique and effective system, and you can put it anywhere you want, not just in the top third of the case
Screw Assembly - Cheaper cases save by riveting their cases together. Not the biggest deal if you're a serious modder but can be a real pain for someone just starting out with customization.
Reversible Orientation - Not on all their cases, but a fantastic option I believe they are planning to implement on all cases in the future. I changed my SM8 back and forth twice before I started loading hardware in it.
Quality Powdercoat - Seems like a minor thing, but I think there's something to be said for a really nice paint job. The cases I checked out and microcenter couldn't hold a candle to the textured matte coating my SM8 has.
Modularity - Again, customizability. Pedastals, cages, casters, You can buy a replacement for component you mess up while modding. For my chassis I could also get: 3 different sized tops, window panel on either door, different sized windows, mesh or solid bay drive covers, and more. The combinations are extensive and I have seen no other case like it.
Built in the US by a US company - take it or leave it. It's nice to have price in American-made things.
Customer service - hands down the best. Spend any amount of time looking at the posts in this thread, or send Jim or Kevin a message yourself, and you'll see. If you want "peace of mind," this is huge.
CL charges premium prices, no doubt about it. But no other case I looked at, including the 900D could come close to matching these features and overall construction quality.
