GSkill RMA NOT a fair replacement? - Page 2

Those CL6 1GB DDR3-1600 were oddball modules, they probably didn't have many of those in the sales channel even when 1GB DIMMS were the norm. I'm not really surprised they couldn't come up with an exact replacement for you.

Your best bet might be to contact G.Skill and see if they would be willing to send some other lower latency, smaller capacity DIMMS in exchange for the 2x4GB CL9. On the flip side, you sent them 3-4 year old 1GB DIMMS and got back brand new 4GB DIMMS. That's not too bad, I think they did their due diligence in trying to give you a worthwhile replacement. The only thing they would have made it a smoother customer relationship experience would be to call you or e-mail before shipping to make sure you were OK with the idea.

Yup they did help you decently but I think asking them for something else will not hurt either, as long as you keep your cool and get a good CSR on the phone.

As far as I know, G.Skill have completely discontinued 1Gb DDR3 modules and produce 2Gb modules in very limited quantities.
If you wanted to get good clocking 2Gb sticks as a replacement, I doubt if G.Skill could offer you any since they ran out of Elpida BBSE and X-series PSC a long time ago.
So, the 2x4Gb set you got back is about the maximum value it would be possible to extract out of the situation.

I hope my 2 Gb modules never die now frown.gif

Got 6x2 Gb that happily run at 6-7-6-18 1600, or 7-8-7-18 1866, probably the same chips as the OPs old ram.

You RMA'd 3GB and they returned you 8GB with slower timings and you're complaining? rolleyes.gif

Super low cas latency memory is pretty much dead. None of us want Cas 6 1600. We want Cas 11 2800

looks like a fair trade but for you does not help with benchmarking you might look to trade the ram maybe on here or sell it and try to find some good clocking memory my 6gig kit of gskill does 6-7-6-21 1T no use for it in my pc tho have it in my media/file server running way below stock back in the day i pushed that ram to almost 2000mhz i dont reclall the timings or voltages now days. Worth asking maybe see if they have any of that ram left might fit your needs better.

Low latency = more head room to raise clock speed by raising the latency. Did you think i run them stock? biggrin.gif These sticks could hold 2100 @ cas7 all day thumb.gif

I don't think it's fair. You're using it as bench RAM so capacity doesn't matter so much as timing and speed....I'd contact them asking for something with similar performance like their warranty states.
