Figured that I'd weigh in, since hey, why not
I have used the AP-15s and the SP-120 performance editions both. I much
prefer the SP120s. Right away, the AP15s are somewhat quieter. However, I've always found that when undervolted, they produce a harmonic resonance that I find very hard on the ears. It just rubs me the wrong way.
I have had no troubles with the SP-120s.
A), they look better
B) they mount perfectly well (for me) both horizontally and vertically
C) they undervolt well - I have no problems with mechanical noise of any sort.
I'm using SP-120 6 performance edition fans (without the included step-down adapter) on my 30mm radiator in push pull. I've got them undervolted to roughly 1000 rpms (using Aquaero 5 to control fan speeds) and they're whisper quiet. They're certainly much quieter than my case fans (2 x 200mm, 1 x 140 mm) and the GPU.
